Home / Industries / Driving Schools & Instructors

The AI phone receptionist for driving schools & instructors.

You cannot answer the phone with a learner at the wheel, and a new pupil who reaches voicemail rings the next instructor on the list. Ringmere answers, asks about their licence and experience, and books the first lesson.

The missed-call problem

Sound familiar?

  • Back-to-back lessons with the phone on silent
  • New learners who ring three instructors and book the first to answer
  • Pupils switching instructor with a test date already booked

Every one of those is a booking walking to a competitor. Ringmere answers before it does.

How Ringmere helps driving schools & instructors

Answer, book, and hand you the rest.

Answers your calls, 24/7

First-ring pickup, evenings and weekends included, so callers get a real answer instead of voicemail.

Books lessons around your teaching

Offers real gaps in your diary for the lesson length the pupil wants, and saves their licence status and experience with the booking.

Escalates what matters

Urgent, clinical or unhappy callers go to your team immediately, with full context.

It answers messages too: on Growth and Pro, customers can WhatsApp or text your business and the same receptionist replies, books and takes orders.

Call by call

Every call a driving instructor gets.

An instructor’s working day is spent in a car with the phone out of reach. This is what Ringmere does with the calls that come in during lessons.

The callWhat Ringmere does
A beginner with a brand-new provisional licenceAnswers your prices and the areas you cover as you have approved them, asks about their licence and experience, and books the first lesson.
A pupil switching instructor with a test already bookedTakes their test date, test centre and experience as a message, or books an assessment lesson, so you can judge whether you can get them ready in time.
“Do you do intensive courses?”Quotes your course price if you list one, and takes the dates and experience as an enquiry when it needs your judgement.
“Can I use your car for my test?”Booked as a service if you offer it, with the test time noted. Ringmere does not book or move the test itself; that is done on GOV.UK.
Moving or cancelling a lessonHandled on the call within your notice rules, and the slot is free for the next pupil.
A parent ringing on behalf of a 17-year-oldTakes the learner’s details and books in the learner’s name, with the parent’s number if that is the one to use.
Calls during lessons, evenings and weekendsAnswered on the first ring while your attention stays on the road and your pupil.

An example call

Written to show how a call goes, using sample services and prices; not a recording.

Caller: Hi, I’ve just got my provisional and I want to start lessons. Have you got anything on Saturdays?

Ringmere: Lessons are £36 an hour, or £70 for two hours. Have you done any driving before?

Caller: A bit with my dad, maybe five times.

Ringmere: Thanks. I have a two-hour lesson this Saturday at 9am, or next Saturday at 11am. Which would you like?

Caller: This Saturday at nine.

Ringmere: Can I take your name?

Caller: Ellie Ward.

Ringmere: Thanks, Ellie. You’re booked for a two-hour lesson on Saturday at 9am, noted as provisional licence with some practice. Please bring your licence with you.

Questions from driving schools & instructors

Good to know.

What does it ask a new learner?
Their name and number, whether they hold a provisional licence and how much driving they have done so far. Those answers are saved with the booking, so you know whether you are picking up a complete beginner.
Can it book a pupil’s driving test?
No. Practical tests are booked with DVSA on GOV.UK, and learners usually need to have passed their theory test first. Ringmere can tell callers that, and book your mock test or the use of your car on test day if you offer them as services.
Can it handle manual and automatic?
Yes. Offer manual and automatic lessons as separate services with their own prices, and the pupil books the right one. Anything extra you want asked, such as the pick-up point, can go in your setup notes.
Can it sell block bookings?
It quotes your block prices, such as ten hours at a discount, exactly as you set them, and books the first lesson. Ringmere does not take payment on the phone, so you collect for the block the way you do now.
What about a driving school with several instructors?
Each instructor has their own diary and hours, and a pupil can ask for a named instructor. Diaries for more than one instructor are on Growth and Pro.
What if a pupil cancels at short notice?
It handles the cancellation within the rules you write, such as 48 hours’ notice, explains your policy in your words, and frees the slot for someone else.
What does an AI receptionist cost for a driving instructor?
Ringmere is £49 a month on Starter, with 150 call minutes and a UK number included, £99 on Growth and £249 on Pro, each with a 7-day free trial. For scale, an illustration only: a beginner usually books lessons for months, so if two new pupils a month each take 30 hours at £36, those two calls are worth over £2,000 of lessons.
Is Ringmere an answering service for driving schools & instructors?
Yes, and a virtual receptionist too. Like an answering service, it picks up your calls 24/7 under your business name. Like a virtual receptionist, it answers questions, takes messages and books appointments straight into your diary. Because it is an AI receptionist it costs from £49 a month, never puts a caller on hold, and on Growth and Pro replies on WhatsApp and text as well.
